Walk With a Woman Who Changed the Future of Her People
Hushahu’s journey is one of profound courage.
At a time when women were forbidden to enter the spiritual path, she chose to walk it anyway. She stepped into a traditional initiation — a period of isolation, discipline, and deep spiritual study — knowing it meant ridicule, danger, and exile from her community.
Alone in the forest, she:
-
Healed wounds carried since childhood
-
Found forgiveness as her medicine
-
Discovered her voice as a channel of spirit
-
Revived artistic traditions nearly lost to time
-
Awakened visions that guide her people to this day
-
Proved through her example that women carry equal spiritual power
Her beadwork motifs now appear across multiple tribes.
Her voice inspires youth and elders alike.
Her leadership helped reshape the possibilities for future generations of Yawanawá women.
The World of the Yawanawá
Deep in the Brazilian Amazon lives a people whose history moves with resilience, spirit, and ancient knowing: the Yawanawá, often called the “People of the Wild Boar.” For generations, they have tended the rainforest as both home and temple, carrying songs, medicines, and stories that bridge the seen and unseen worlds.
It is within this living cosmology — shaped by lineage, land, and spirit — that Hushahu’s path emerged. These origins form the roots of this course and infuse every teaching, practice, and ceremony you will receive.
It was within this world — rooted in lineage, land, and spirit — that Hushahu’s journey unfolded.
This course brings you into direct contact
with the teachings born from that transformation.

MEET HUSHAHU YAWANAWA
In 2005 Hushahu was the first woman to enter into a spiritual study in the story of her people and of other tribes in the region, spending one year and three months in Samakẽi - a spiritual retreat isolated deep in the rainforest under strict rules.
During this time she began to discover the world of the Pajés as a woman, expressing this through her art and her voice, bringing a female voice to the traditionally masculine songs. On her return she brought a great inspiration to her people as well as equality between men and women.
This transformation, along with the beauty of the songs and art she brought back, inspired many, both men and women to re-engage with their tradition.
After then spending many years living simply in her village and helping her people, Hushahu began to travel outside of her village. She found many people were searching for the same healing she had discovered in her own life and so she shared her experience, becoming a spiritual leader not only to her people but to many around the world. In 2021 she began to build Centro Awavãna in her village, a project to help her people and open the doors for western visitors to find their healing through the Yawanawá tradition.
In May of 2024, after years travelling and working with visitors in her village, she stopped all of her work to enter into a deeper spiritual retreat - Runua Xinã, making her the only person since the passing of her father to undertake this diet. Searching deeper still, she again spent one year isolated in the jungle, deepening her study of the tradition in order to better help those around the world who come to her.
Now Hushahu is coming out of this time of deep retreat to share again with us. She brings the wisdom of her life’s experiences, sharing the love and depth of study that she carries in her heart.
ABOUT Centro Awavãna
By joining this course you will be supporting Centro Awavãna:
Directed by Hushahu Yawanawá and Adair Isãrua, Centro Awavãna is dedicated to strengthening Yawanawá spirituality within the tribe, caring for the rainforest as the source of that spirituality and sharing that spirituality to bring healing to those of our world who are searching for it.
It is a project of cultural preservation on multiple levels as well as a model for sustainability and food-sovereignty in indigenous communities living in the modern world.
A home and a school for the next generations teaching not only cultural and spiritual practices but also passing on sustainable values for living in harmony with the rainforest.
Gratitude to Hushahu from a Previous Student

"As a student of Hushahu Yawanawa, I am so grateful to have experienced her online courses. To access her teachings and spiritual wisdom is truly remarkable, bringing the forest and her force into the moment, no matter the circumstances or distance. While being at Centro Awavana offers profound depths of focused immersion, the online portal and expanded curriculum of the courses open doors for intergration and application with the rhythms of daily life. For me this has been an essential element of carrying forward and tending to the development of my spiritual path and work both in home and community."
Catalina Clark, Midwife of Healing
"In September 2023, I joined Hushahu Yawanawá’s online spiritual study, Spirit of Transformation, and it profoundly changed my life.
Even without physically entering the forest, this study opened a deep initiation into personal growth and spiritual maturation.
During this time Hushahu very generously shared many intimate sacred teachings that continue to guide my daily life. These practices have become an anchor for me, helping me to integrate ceremonial experiences into the modern world with grace and integrity.
Hushahu’s humility, depth of study within the Yawanawá culture and embodiment as a woman, mother, daughter, wife, teacher and friend are a living reminder that true transformation is possible.
I wholeheartedly recommend this course to anyone feeling called into deep, grounded spiritual study.
The path she opened for me is real and the learning is endless."

"Hushahu has been one of the most important teachers in my life. Through her presence, teachings, and transmissions, I have learned how to listen to myself more deeply and to move through the world with my heart open. Meeting her in 2021 marked a turning point in my life, and each year since, returning to the forest has felt like coming home. Through her remote studies, her teachings continue to walk with me, supporting my self-study and guiding me through the challenges of living, loving, and growing within Western society."
